![]() I thought for a second he was sleep walking but no, he was that excited to start his day. He woke up at 5am something he has NEVER done before…not even on Christmas morning. He told me he couldn’t wait to play with his friends. The eve of his 1st day he couldn’t sleep of course. He chose the red shirt with the 3 skateboarders on the front. In the car ride back home from meeting his teacher he was already planning out what shirt he was gonna wear on his first day of school. Nathan didn’t say much or seem excited about starting another school year until we met his teacher last week and he found out his friend was in his class, sitting right next to him no less. ![]() Seems like this summer went by so quickly and upon us now is another school year. For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health. I am not sure how I got so lucky but I am willing to spend another 19years trying to show him the love, trust and admiration I have for him. The ultimate term of endearment I believe. It goes without saying the countless mixed tapes and screen prints he’s made for me over the years. The man that spent months upon months creating and writing a 49 page love letter for our 5th wedding anniversary “a testament of his love” he wrote. I am thankful every day for the precious gifts that have been handed to me because of him. Who would have thought I would find the person I was meant to be with so early on in life but I am a firm believer of things happening for a reason and I thank and am grateful to that higher power who placed him in my path so long ago. A person who trusts, respects, and loves me unconditionally. A person who has fathered a child with me and has expressed his love and admiration without blinking an eye. ![]() A person who has seen me at my most vulnerable state and has yet to flinch. Happy to have found such an amazing person to share my life with. On this day 12years ago, we said “I Do” and I will never forget the happiness I felt. He was dedicated and determined even then. He took on a second job just to make it work. ![]() It took a little over a year for us to save up money to pay for our wedding. When neither one of us could choke down the sandwich any longer, we sprung to our feet and started making calls to our families informing them of our big news. We sat at the bench near the pond listening to Smokey Robinson sing “Second that Emotion” pretending to eat our soggy sandwiches from our picnic basket and trying desperately to play it cool like nothing monumental had just occurred. Fast forward 7 years where I found him down on one knee near a pond at City Park in New Orleans. And when he asked me to the Back To School dance I was elated. ![]() He made me laugh and told me interesting stories about art and music. He was sweet and shy yet charming and funny. There was this boy in high school who I sat next to in a couple of classes. ![]()
